Fifteen years after the catastrophic event known as the Second Impact, the world faces a new threat: monstrous beings called Angels begin attacking Tokyo-3. Despite humanity’s advanced technology, their defenses are powerless against the Angels. The only hope lies with NERV, a secretive organization led by the cold and calculating Gendou Ikari. NERV’s weapon of choice is the Evangelion, a giant humanoid robot designed to battle the Angels using advanced technology and protective barriers known as Absolute Terror Fields.
Gendou’s estranged 14-year-old son, Shinji Ikari, is called back to Tokyo-3 after years of abandonment. Burdened by deep emotional trauma from his mother’s death and his father’s neglect, Shinji struggles to open up to others. His life takes a turn when he meets Misato Katsuragi, a NERV officer who provides him with the warmth and support he has long lacked.
When an Angel attack occurs, Shinji is thrust into action, forced to pilot Evangelion Unit-01—the only machine that can synchronize with his biometrics. As he faces psychological torment and trauma from piloting the Evangelion, Shinji must fight to protect Tokyo-3 from the Angelic threat, unaware of his father’s true, sinister motives.
