Death Note tells the story of Light Yagami, a brilliant 17-year-old student who shares a bleak view of the world with the death god, Ryuk. While the human world is plagued by crime and violence, the realm of death gods has become a monotonous gambling den. For his own entertainment, Ryuk drops his Death Note into the human world—a notebook with a chilling rule: anyone whose name is written in it will die.
Light stumbles upon the notebook and, initially skeptical, tests its power by writing a criminal’s name. When the man dies, Light realizes the immense, godlike power he now wields. Under the alias “Kira,” Light sets out on a mission to rid the world of all criminals, pursuing a twisted sense of justice by executing those he deems evil.
However, his actions catch the attention of the genius detective known only as “L.” What follows is an intense and deadly battle of wits between Light and L, as both masterminds try to outmaneuver the other, knowing that only one can emerge victorious in this high-stakes game.
