Black Clover follows Asta, an orphan in a world full of magic who, ironically, has no magical abilities whatsoever. Despite this, he loudly proclaims his dream of becoming the Wizard King, the most powerful mage in the Clover Kingdom. His childhood friend and rival, Yuno, has natural talent and control over powerful wind magic, creating a vast difference between them. Nonetheless, Asta trains relentlessly, determined to catch up to Yuno and fulfill his dream.

At the age of 15, citizens of the Clover Kingdom receive their Grimoires, magical books that amplify their powers. Yuno obtains a rare and powerful four-leaf clover Grimoire, signifying his extraordinary potential. Meanwhile, Asta waits, but no Grimoire appears for him. Just as he begins to lose hope, Yuno is attacked by a mage attempting to steal his powerful Grimoire. Despite being powerless, Asta refuses to give up, and in the midst of the struggle, he is granted a mysterious black five-leaf clover Grimoire, signaling the start of his unexpected and magical journey.
